PHILOSOPHY The Preschool’s goal is to help children reach their maximum potential and learn to work and relate with others. Children are accepted in their current state of development. They are helped to grow within their spiritual, physical, mental, social and emotional potential. Each child is encouraged in our preschool to develop a creative and inquiring mind, good relationships with others, and a loving awareness of God.
- To develop a wholesome attitude toward work, play, people, property, learning, and self.
- To develop an acceptable behavior pattern towards others and to be a part of a group.
- To develop an appreciation of beauty, truth and the love of God.
- To encourage creative expression through art, music, stories, and group play.
- To develop independent thinking and problem solving.
CURRICULUM We have chosen Wee-Learn for Twos/Threes/Fours. The purpose of the Wee Learn curriculum is to provide a frame work on which teachers can build an early childhood program that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did - in “wisdom and stature” and in “favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). A child’s growth and development is viewed as a process, not an event. Therefore, the Wee Learn curriculum provides a range of activities, which are designed to meet the needs of preschoolers at their level of development in the growth process.
Physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual development are equal in importance. The teacher’s responsibility is to select activities which provide a balanced program of early childhood education. These activities are incorporated into learning centers: blocks, books, puzzles, nature, homeliving, music and art.
Wee Learn is developed around themes that provide opportunities for children to learn about God’s world and how to live in it. Activities that embrace physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual development are included under each theme topic. The themes are designed to help lay a foundation for understanding God, Jesus, the Bible, the church, self, others and the natural world. The teachers utilize activities to plan individual, small-group, and large group activities, which will meet the specific needs and interests of each child.
Outdoor play is an important part of your child’s day and total health. Weather permitting, the children will play outdoors each day. Parents, please dress your child appropriately. The playground is equipped with sturdy equipment and play is supervised.
ENROLLMENT Enrollment Forms: The following enrollment forms must be completed by the parents prior to the child’s first day in the center:
- Application for Enrollment
- Emergency Medical Authorization
- Health Information
- Handbook Form - signed by both parents
- Permission to be on entire ground of First Baptist Church.
- Current immunization record signed by the child’s physician or the Heath Department. This should be on Georgia Dept. of Human Resource Form 3231. One must be completed each time a child receives immunizations.
Two’s: 9 am - noon; Tuesday and Thursday Three’s: 9 am - noon; Tuesday - Thursday Four’s: 9 am - noon; Monday - Friday
WHAT GOES ON DURING A DAY IN PRESCHOOL? The daily preschool schedule is of course flexible. To provide the security of an established routine, a certain sequence of the following activities will normally be followed:
Arrival: Children will unload in the designated drop off area each morning until 9:00. Children arriving late will go directly to their rooms. We strongly suggest to arrive on time since this allows the child to begin participating with the whole group.
Work and Play Activities: The children choose what they would like to do from a variety of activities such as books, blocks, home-living, art, puzzles, and others.
Snack: This time together provides an opportunity to thank God for His good gifts and to learn desirable table manners.
Outdoor Activities: Using playground equipment develops large and small muscles, and increases coordination.
Group Experiences: The children sing, listen and move to music, hear, tell and dramatize stories, and share experiences.
Planned Activities: A variety of activities such as field trips, guest speakers and family activities add to the children’s learning of units we study during the year.
More Information Available: Information on payment policies, child drop-off and pick-up, what your child needs to wear and bring, snacks and food allergies, health rules, and much more are available in our Preschool Parents Handbook, which can be secured from the preschool office.
